ACETABULAR HIP SPACER

The Hip Spacer with an acetabular component complements the product range of Subiton spacers.
The advantage of providing a hip cup spacer together with the femoral one is that it allows the articulation between two components specifically designed to work together (femoral head and inner surface of the hip cup) which makes it possible to:

• Improve the patient’s hip mobility
• Reduce the risk of damaging the remaining bone (bone stock) of the patient’s hip cup
• Reduce or eliminate the crunching which is sometimes produced by the friction between the femoral head and the patient’s bone.
• Increase the spacer’s stability
• Increase the antibiotic release surface and, consequently, the local antibiotic concentrations.
• Perform an acetabular roofplasty with cement when necessary.
• Keep the spacer in place for a longer period of time, if necessary
  Improve the patient’s comfort
• Fix the hip cup by using a cement with an antibiotic
• Improve the fixation by means of the grooved outer surface of the hip cup, without compromising the possibility of its subsequent extraction.

The Subiton acetabular spacer is to be implanted, exclusively, with the 40C and 40CXL Subiton hip spacer.
